Bring your moulding back to the UK
Injection Mouldings Ltd has made plastic parts in Staverton, Cheltenham since 1994. We build the tool, mould the part and finish it under one roof, for customers in aerospace, defence, electronics, construction and consumer products. We're certified to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
If you moved production to China and are thinking about bringing it back, the reason is rarely the unit price. It's everything around it.
Why the unit price isn't the real price
A part quoted cheaply in China doesn't arrive at that price. By the time it reaches your warehouse, you've also paid for:
- Freight and insurance, plus stock tied up for weeks at sea
- Import duty and, if you sell into the US, tariffs well above those on UK-made goods
- Safety stock to cover long, unpredictable lead times
- Quality problems found only when a container lands
- Travel, audits and time zones whenever something goes wrong
- The risk of your tool and design IP being copied
The sum of all this is your total landed cost. That's the number to compare with ours.
What changes when you mould in the UK
Lead times in weeks, not months. Smaller batches become practical, so you hold less stock.
Tariff advantages. UK-made parts that meet the rules of origin can go into the EU tariff-free under the UK–EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement. In the US, UK goods face much lower tariffs than Chinese goods.
Your IP stays here. Your tool sits in our toolroom in Gloucestershire, not in a factory you've never visited.
Engineers you can talk to. We'll review your part for manufacturability before cutting steel, and you can visit the shop floor.
Moving an existing tool from China
You don't always need a new tool. When your tool arrives we'll assess it, tell you honestly whether it will run well on our machines, and quote for any refurbishment or modification. Where a new tool makes more sense, we design and build it in-house.
- Send us drawings or a sample part, your annual volumes and your current landed price
- We send a UK quote and a landed-cost comparison
- We trial your tool or build a new one, and produce first-off samples
- You approve the samples and we move into production

Frequently asked questions
Is UK injection moulding more expensive than China?
On unit price, often yes. On total landed cost, often no, especially for engineering polymers, lower volumes, frequent design changes, or parts sold into the US or EU. The only way to know is to compare like for like, and we'll do that for you.
Can you take over a mould tool made in China?
Yes. We assess each transferred tool and tell you upfront what, if anything, it needs.
What volumes do you handle?
From prototypes and low-volume runs through to ongoing production.
Which materials do you mould?
Commodity plastics through to complex and advanced engineering polymers.
Where are you?
Unit C, Staverton Connection, Gloucester Road, Staverton, Cheltenham GL51 0TF, between Cheltenham and Gloucester and close to the M5.
